Greetings Eric, you have stumbled upon one of the best discussion boards on the web. I want to personally thank you for your excellent writtings on technology stocks. In my opinion you don't need to read the field manual. You do quite well on your own. I also want to thank you for your compelling arguments for owning JDSU, CREE, RBAK, and QCOM. They certainly helped me in my own due diligence and I have profited nicely from them all.

On Global Crossing, you are correct that this company does not fit Moore's criteria and most of us don't own the stock.

How is the day job going?

Mark

Eric;

I'm not much of an expert on Gorilla Gaming, but I'm sure that companies that are dependant on favorable supply/demand scenarios in order to maintain high margins aren't the type that Moore's followers, or anyone else that's looking to invest in tech companies capable of sustaining major competitive advantages over long periods of time..

Well put, and thank you for your contribution on Global Crossing. It's becoming clear on this thread, and over time, that many of Moore's ideas are not original, and the notion of Competitive Advantage dates back several decades. Moore gets credit for distilling the ideas of others, mixing in his own observations, and applying the whole to High Technology issues. For Joe Average Investor, such as myself with no High Tech or Business background, Moore's writings are essential and lucid.

If you haven't already done so, please take a look at Fred Manzo's FAQ on this thread to get a feel for this animal. It sounds like we'd benefit from your thoughts on some of our gorilla and king candidates.

Dear Eric: You have actually stumbled upon the reason why GBLX may in fact one day be a gorilla and why I believe GG recommends it. It is basically as follows: Dropping rates plays right into the field manual for GBLX to keep competition OUT. It goes something like this: It gets evermore expensive to lay transoceanic fiber optic cable/ meanwhile, through technology its possible to push more and more through the existing "pipe" thus GBLX can in fact drop rates (their costs are fixed) making it financially impractical for a competitor to lay their own pipe. Meanwhile GBLX continues to have great margins as its working off of volume. Now, this is all in the future, at this point systems are not even yet all in place, but I believe I have described the game plan. JDN

Eric2,

<< Hi. This is my first time posting here, and thought that I'd touch upon Global Crossing >>

Welcome aboard (belatedly). I was on walkabout when you first posted here, and I had to blink when I saw, not one, but several posts here by you.

<< I'm not much of an expert on Gorilla Gaming >>

You would have had me fooled (no play on words intended since there are several fools here).

I consider your web site "Technology Stock Recommendations" to be one of the great sources of research material on "Gorilla & King Portfolio Candidates"

Hope you don't mind my posting the URL for your site (which I just did in a post to tekboy).
