Betty, That is a positive appraisal of Bush, IMO. Every body seemed to think that Truman was a fifth wheel, but he turned out to be a damned good President, with values, and guts.

Yes, I think there is one. He is a very unpretentious, easy- going fellow. It is, to me, a pleasure to listen to him in an interview, precisely because he is spontaneous (making allowances for some political calculation), warm, and human, in contrast to Gore, who has a hard shell of calculation around him. Truman was one of our most down- to- earth presidents. People have underestimated both because they were too folksy. But there is a toughness, I think, and straightforwardness in dealing with people, that make both good men to have in the middle of things, to listen, question, and make the tough calls..........

Do you know if Harry Truman was a Free Mason...?

I read somewhere that he described himself as a "33rd degree Free Mason"...

Always pays to check on the things one reads-
