Chuck,

<Now, this is not to say Duron sales are completely lost. I am sure AMD will recover some of it in the form of Athlons and K6s but we are basically talking about one more lost opportunity. Some of the chipsets/motherboards built for Duron would be useful for pushing Athlons. This is one thing that irks me about AMD - the perennial string of lost opportunities>

Are you saying that AMD could easily exceed 7Million CPUs, or 7Million Units with fewer K6-2s & more Durons this quarter if it were not for the infrastructure hiccups? If so, I understand your concern about the lost opportunities.

Chuck,

This is one thing that irks me about AMD - the perennial string of lost opportunities.

That could be our theme this year.

I don't even want to get started on the total incompetence on the infrastructure side. These guys have messedup infrastructure launches 2 years in a row! People blaming Via should note that AMD owns this problem not Via.

I'm certainly not saying it is all Via's fault. As discussed, AMD has chosen to partner with Via and other chipset makers rather than devote engineering and other resources to these issues in-house. That's the Company's decision to make and it seems a reasonable one....but obviously in hindsight it wasn't the right one to make. Via cannot be relied upon and AMD erred both in its reliance and in its planning (again).

I can't believe they keep screwing this issue up...this is like semi-biz 101. Where's Ruiz in all this?
