I am far from pessimistic, and I am probably the biggest believer in software over the Internet. My startup delivered the first Web-based office suite to the public about a year ago to date. This is how I know when Sun announced what. I have also learned that it is not best to compete head to head with an entrenched giant, but to attack from the side. Visit our site at nuomedia.com where you will find an array of purely web-based productivity apps, including an office suite (yes, released a year before Sun and MSFT). Despite the fact that I may compete with MSFT, it would be quite foolish of me to ignore history or jump to conclusions. MSFT is a significant force to be reckoned with a substantial, proprietary user base and massive resources guided by capable management. Sun has done quite well in their repositioning as a net company, but that should not blind you to MSFTs plans.
