Ten,

Tom thought AMD K6 was going to trounce Pentium II

K6 made huge inroads into Intel's market. It was the platform of choice for gamers.

Tom said absolutely no one will go along with AGP

I don't remember this one.

- Tom said the "open" Super 7 standard will win out over Intel's "proprietary" Slot 1

The fundamental principle was correct. Intel moved away from slot 1 for the reasons that Tom cited. At the time Tom made his prediction, Intel did not offer a socketed processor, so it was not an option.

Tom thought 3DNow! was going to take AMD's processors to new gaming performance heights

3DNow made AMD very popular among gamers. K6-2 was the platform of choice for gamers for a long time. SSE did not come out till well after 3DNow.

Tom said that RDRAM will never catch on.

He caught on a lot faster than Intel's management on this one.

Your criticism of Tom is rather hollow. He has done a good job of providing key information. No one is perfect, as Intel has proven repeatedly during the last 12 months.

Tenchusatsu - Re: " Tom isn't exactly batting above .200 with his anti-Intel statements. Some other examples:

- Tom thought AMD K6 was going to trounce Pentium II
- Tom said absolutely no one will go along with AGP
- Tom said the "open" Super 7 standard will win out over Intel's "proprietary" Slot 1
- Tom thought 3DNow! was going to take AMD's processors to new gaming performance heights
- Tom said that RDRAM will never catch on. (OK, so the jury is still out on this one, but that's one out of five)."

Great summary !

That puts Tom PabstSmear's opinions into even better perspective.

As for things getting out of hand, I think PabstSmear's site is now widely recognized as nothing but a soap-box from which he spouts his anti-Intel diatribes.

Long term effect on Intel is zilch - as PabstSmear keeps demonstrating why losers hate winners.
