You may not know that NTT's WCDMA was supposed to be up and running in the May of THIS YEAR. I dont know about May of this year....but it was definitely supposed to be ready to go by March of 2001. I think they changed the target in April. Slacker

Right you lot! Same old myopia is creeping here. To comment on the last few posts, Jacobs comments regarding WCDMA is a commercial ploy. Handset problems are nothing new, it is the nature of evolving (it tends to happen with all wireless technologies...God do I remember the first 'transportable' phones!). So far there has been no indication that WCDMA is delayed... WCDMA, of whoever's standard, does indeed have a GSM component. GSM defines not just the air interface (the bit you can't see!), but the whole f'ing network - unlike most other wireless standards. WCDMA/UMTS relates mainly to the air-interface, but uses (utilises) a GSM core... Japan and Korea are meant to be up and running by 2002...that has always been the plan and there is a reason for it. That goal was first introduced many years ago, after both countries won the right to co-host the World Cup 2002 (football, you know the one you actually use your feet in). After today, i am off on holiday and will enjoy 2 weeks fishing off the coast of Rauma. I am fed-up. M
