oh freeus, "[I] had the sense [you] lacked", you are far too kind to me and far too harsh on yourself. I was so sensible that I redoubled my CTXS position at 40 a few months ago. I owned it exactly one trading day and it was at 20. I picked Covad rather than Copper Mountain. I own enough Loral to have a satellite named after me. Please don't make me go on, I'm getting nauseous.
Here's the deal in my, VERY, humble opinion. You simply have to take a venture capitalist's approach, attitude, and philosophy: one or two winners are all you need to cover a truckload of losses. There are some really, really smart guys on this thread. Guess what? The guys on the moderated Qualcomm thread aren't the slowest little bunnies in the warren either. And they all STILL BLOW IT from time to time.
You want me to make the case for CTXS technology? Good Lord, I'll have you selling your house by the end of the day to own the damned thing. But somehow their management 'team' swallowed stupid pills about six months ago and I watched a fair sized chunk of retirement capital vaporize. Go figure.
The best folks with the most earnest, thoughtful due diligence, get blindsided. Just happens. But you can alter the odds a little bit, bag a monster every once in a long while. . . .and that's enough. Thank heavens.
regards, mike doyle

OT/Freeus, RE: "...the sense I lacked"
I don't think you should beat yourself up. It's all fine and good in hindsight to see what the 'smart' path was.

Advice about strategies is predicated on a poster's particular circumstances...conditions that, by and large, we know nothing about. Some people advocating LTB&H already have 10 years retirement socked away in cash. Their stocks are 'on top' of that. Some posters are younger than others. These and other factors should inform our decisions.

I don't think LTB&H is a religion. It's a great strategy, but one that has to considered in the context of current needs, age etc. Best of luck
