Chuck, Re: AMD said Durons would ship from Compaq and other OEMs in July. That didn't happen.

They didn't say that Durons would ship in July, they only stated that Compaq and other OEMs would introduce Duron systems. AMD never gave a specific date. Oh, and here in Germany Compaq is shipping Durons (see my message from Friday).

I think it isn't very surprising that major OEMs like Compaq or HP need more time than a month or two to design a completely new system with a brand new infrastructure (Socket A). If Duron was Slot-based we probably would have seen SDKs sooner. But with the new infrastructure (and the delays from Via) it was only natural that the whole process would take more time.

BTW, I don't think it is a good idea to blame your partner on a conference call of a "earnings shortfall". AMD stated that they could have sold more Athlons in Q2 without the chipset problems. What could they have said more? That VIA is an unreliable company with major problems? AMD depends on VIAs support (at least for now) and they can't blame them in public or a press release.

Just my two cents.
