MUNICH, Germany, Sept. 10, 1998 – The new MultiMediaCard Association, established in May, 1998, with 14 industry-leading companies, has more than doubled in size with 15 new firms joining including major manufacturers such as Sony and Advanced Micro Devices. The announcement was made today at a press conference held by SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK). SanDisk, along with Siemens AG of Germany, introduced the ultra-small, removable memory card in November, 1997, as a new storage standard for mobile phones, audio players, voice recorders and other small, portable electronic devices.

Has anything changed since this announcement?

John

You can see in the table on page 6 that Hitachi pays no royalties on their MMC or their CF cards.

Wily, I read the white paper and I don't see any discussions of royalties at all. I wouldn't assume they don't pay royalties. (see below)

Possibly they are cross-licensed with Sandisk somehow.

I did a search on the SNDK website for Hitachi and came up with the following:

SANDISK ANNOUNCES RECORD REVENUE AND EARNINGS
SUNNYVALE, CA, October 15, 1997
...Revenues from licenses and royalties in the current quarter increased by $2.5 million, to $5.9 million, attributable to recent cross-license agreements entered into by SanDisk with Hitachi,...

Clearly, Hitachi is paying them royalties.
