Commentary on today’s events
Nothing new.
Conseco/Wendt have clearly stated how they will pay their debts:

-“ There will not be a firesale of assets”
-“We will not sell CNCFinance now at fire sale prices.
Maybe later in the normal course of Business"
-" The company intends to manage debt payments due from
2000 through 2002 while minimizing any change in our
strategic position and/or any loss to future
income-generating potential. "
As a result, S & P downgrades CNC because:
” The revision in the CreditWatch status reflects the increasing likelihood that Conseco Finance will not be sold to a higher-rated entity in the foreseeable future.

So, what we have is a delayed reaction by MOODY’s

and S & P's
because CNC will not raise cash in a fire sale.
It is hard for them to see how Gary Wendt will pay
the debt so it is their fiduciary responsibility to put
CNC on CreditWatch.
However both stated that
” They expect the company and its bank lenders to reach a satisfactory agreement “
Now what MOODY’s and S & P’s need to do
is take a deep breath, sit back and relax and watch
Gary Wendt do his “ Magic “,to see how he does it.
Magic as in “ Magic Johnson “ .
Today CNC closed down 1/16 on low volume indicative
That longs are willing to hold their shares
and give Gary a chance.
Shorts are getting very ansy as evidenced by
Multiple attacks and bombing raids in the
CNC Longs strongholds in YAHOO and SI
Message boards.
They know that a time bomb is ticking.
They know Gary will fix CNC.
They know that when that happens
they will feel a sharp pain between their legs
resembling a walnut-crushing event.
They are asking for immediate relief but are not
getting it.
Any suggestions as to how to help
CNC Shorty Inc out of their misery
As humanitarian gesture
will be deeply appreciated by them.

S&P cuts Conseco Fin status
Aug. 8, 2000--3:18 pm - By Chris Kraeuter
Conseco Finance's credit rating status was revised to "negative" from "developing" by Standard & Poor's. According to a S&P statement, S&P "believes Conseco Finance's creditworthiness is severely limited by a lack of funding flexibility and aggressive leverage." Also, S&P cited its belief that the finance unit will not be sold to a "higher-rated" entity in the foreseeable future. Conseco Finance's ratings were placed on "developing" on March 31. Conseco's (CNC: news, msgs) ratings status was placed on "negative" on April 7. Currently, Conseco shares are down 1/16 to 7 7/8 on volume of 2.8 million shares.
