So you cannot accept that something as bizarre and "insane" as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder is caused by brain malfunction and not screwed-up thinking and certainly not not having "found God"? (I am NOT going to argue that a "hyperactive" kid a teacher can't handle should be drugged. Maybe the teacher should find another way to make a living.)

Parkinson's disease can be helped by dopamine (for a while, anyway.) Why couldn't other brain disorders also be improved by them?

If I give a three year old kid an overdose of refined sugar every day, do you think it might have an effect on his behavior?

I firmly believe this is a major cause of "unruly" kids.

When I was a kid, soda pop and candy were treats. Now it seems that it is a major food group.

It amazes me when parents give their kids a gigantic dose of sugar and then complain about their behavior.

Hmmm. The Scientific Method.

Actually, the people doing the studies actually do things like double-blind tests to test the effectiveness of the drugs. Worse than that, they are actually beginning to learn how to detect abnormal levels of proteins and neurotransmitters in people with mental diseases, or other diseases of the brain. If it has an identifiable biological marker does it not become a biological disease?

Do you, by any chance, prescribe psychotropic drugs for people yourself?

No, I take them. I'm manic-depressive.

One single example will suffice.

My behavior and thinking is far closer to normal than it was before the appropriate medication was found. Will this single example suffice? If not, you could try talking to Patty Duke (manic-depressive) or William Styron (clinical depression), to name a couple of famous people who've found successful treatment through medication.

I can't speak for giant alien reptiles. (How do you get through doors, anyway? into elevators?)

But how about.....
"Each organ has at least one function. Being human- -thinking, feeling, emotions, conciousness, intelligence, a sense of humor- -are what the brain does."
