Peter,
RE:"Recently, there has been an incredible change in the perception of AMD by analysts and funds managers - in an extremely negative way. The more I think about it the more I am convinced that the true reason was not the misinterpretation of the well known CISCO flash statement but the pure fact that Intel launched the 1.133 GHz processor."

Looks to me like the fund managers were executing preplanned profit taking after Q2 results. They had it in their minds that AMD is toast after Willy and figured they would sell in advance.
Couple this the wall street imagined semiconductor slowdown (what a joke) and viola...AMD takes it hard.
The Cisco flash and P-III-1133Mhz announcement just gave them more excuses.
Remember, these people, generate commissions by churning as well...and on top of that...have little knowledge of the semiconductor industry as a whole...
But they do control a lot of money...which is just as important.

Peter re <<Sad but true. I cannot imagine another explanation of the recent stock moves. >>

I don't think it is true at all. The problem is not perception, it is lack of OEM support for Duron. K62 SKU's are loosing to Celeron both at the desktop and notebook front. K62+, and K62's are not cutting it due to low MHz numbers and Duron, Camero and Mustang mobile are not here yet.

Peter,
RE:"The ONLY thing which counts is a victory in the MHz war. And for that AMD has to announce a 1.2 GHz chip."

I wouldn't say it's the only thing but it's very big...
Clearly, Mhz sells-(TM-McMannis)
And Wall Street could be looking forward to Willy...1.3-1.4GHZ?
Seeing a 1.13GHZ Coppermine doesn't help AMD either...
Seeing no speed bump out of Dresden, not good. Makes you wonder how high Athlon can bin?

peter, re 1.2GHz needed. I've had a sneaky feeling for the last week or so that AMD will announce 1.2 GHz Monday or so, but didn't want to reveal my suspicions. The reason I thought that? -- the cagey pre-announcement of the 1.1 GHz. I mean why bother announcing that you'll announce something slower than the competition?

They said they would announce 1.1 GHz; they didn't say that was all they would announce, did they?

Re:AMD needs a (paper-)launch of a 1.2 GHz Athon ASAP. That's the ONLY thing that impresses the street. Look what the 1 GHz victory had done to AMD

IMHO, what did it for amd is not that they announced 1GHz but that they delivered 10x more GHz parts than Intel. Street did not like amd and no matter what amd would announce it would not help amd that much but some things, like actual deliveries, even street can not ignore.

-Albert

ps bottom line - who cares about the crown just as long as amd is producing most optimal mix
