T. Rowe Price credited the Palm shares to my account that Friday morning (next morning following the spinoff) well before market open that day. In general, I don't see why a broker has to wait for physical delivery following a spinoff, anymore than it has to when you buy a stock. It's like having to wait for a buy to be settled before being able to sell the stock.

James P. DLJ is not correct. If there is a stock split, the new price and the number of shares are reflected in your account immediately. They don't wait until they get the physical shares from the transfer agent. A spinoff works the same way. My accounts at Morgan, Stanley and Dreyfus had the number of shares and the price correct on the day of the spinoff.

I had to E-mail DLJ twice to get my shares of Palm credited. Did not get my account corrected until August 8th. I was disappointed with the way it was handled.
