I have to agree. The Whisper Number was a phenomenon of the bull market, which we are not in anymore.

Going forward, if mega-cap companies can keep meeting earnings estimates and possibly beating by a penny or so on a consistent basis, their stock multiple should not compress. CISCO has done exactly that: beat earnings estimates by exactly one penny for the last dozen quarters, and the Street rewards this consistency and predictability and reliability by continuing to expand the multiple. If DELL can now master this art, they will be just fine in the future.

The conference call in half-an-hour will be the tell-all and the be-all for the stock tomorrow. Management's guidance for the rest of the year, which I believe will be very bullish, is where its at, folks. The revenue miss is already priced into the stock.

Hi Fez,

Have to agree with you and Sam. Don't have much use for "Whisper Numbers". In fact, every time the subject comes up I want to take on those who see great value in them.

Fortunately, the media is getting the message on this subject. While I think they still give far too much exposure to them, the more responsible commentators, probably see these "Whisper Numbers" for what they are.

In their defense for usability one might treat them as a opportunity to invest long term on a fundamental basis. Perhaps they might provide for an artificially created opportunity to buy on unjustified downward pressure.

I and others on this thread, some who are not as active, discussed them at length about a year ago. If someone wanted to dig up the discussion they would get a pretty through examination of the history, value and just what the basis of the "Whisper Numbers" were and what we thought they have become.

Kind of miss some of those discussions between us old Dellheads.

Anyway back to " TWN". Most of us expressed little support for its legitimacy. My thoughts on them are about the same.

Alas, Dell seems once again to have taken it on the chin, in part, apparently according to CNBC, because of the "Whisper Revenue Number"!

I haven't been following Dell in the way I once did. Been out of Dell and into GE, as a major part of my holdings, for almost a year.

Still, it all really started for me with Dell a long time ago. I know I am still emotionally attached to the company. Would have loved to see Dell breakout for some loyal and very fine people who have, over the years, been there for a lot us.

Hope things go well for all the Dellheads.

Sincere Regards,

QT
