statistics show that 8 stocks provides 90% of the diversification of 20 stocks

In your opinion, is this statistic appropriate for tech stocks only, or across the board (ie across industries) ?

There's probably nothing more that I like than when someone like you shows up and announces that they're investing their first $10,000.

Yeah, as a reminder, I took my first 11,000 of savings, combined it with 4,000 I had in an IRA, and bought Qualcomm in Jan of '93. That was only 7 1/2 years ago!
