Analysts will get as much information as we get and that IMHO is good. Maybe they will spend more time delving into the details and stop making ridiculous calls.

Dear John: I think the brokerage houses arguements dont hold water. Look at all the small to mid sized companies that cant even get decent coverage. ie they wont cover if there isnt SOMETHING in it for them!! As to the biggies like INTC they certainly want their story told as much as anyone and probably they would like the public to hear it from the Horses mouth then through the filter of an analyst, many of whom we as a knowledgeable investor group have our reservations about. Nothing changes so far as I see it except NOW when they whisper in someones ear they gotta let us listen in to what is said. We may or may not understand what they are saying. Those that dont will have to await the analyst report, those that do can form their own opinions without having the data filtered before hand. JDN

John,

re: The argument from the brokerage houses is that this will actually decrease the amount of available information.

It would probably level the playing field for most sell-side analysts since only a few of them get preferred treatment now. FD should actually help many of them become more competitive against the bigger names.
