I have a book on my shelf called Why Viet Nam, which deals exclusively with the events of 1945. The author is Archimedes Patti, who ran the OSS operation in Indochina from late 1944 to late 1945. He was personally acquainted with Ho Chi Minh and the French administrators present at the time, and gives an exceedingly detailed (600-odd pages) account of the events. I would strongly recommend it to anybody interested in understanding how the mess started.

Charley, There is a reason that Lyndon Johnson went to St
Dominic's Catholic Church in D>C> and knelt and to pray then came out and sent all of the troops to VietNam. I have a 6'8" Nephew who lies in his hospital bed at home who is a Quadraplegic compliments of that unholy war. It has always been called the Cardinal Spellmen War..Does that tell you something. The French Had spent 15 years? there prior to our
following them:-( There have been more Wars in the Name of God than any other Reason??????
