Clappy: No, the ground system on the service is not what I was talking about. That should remain of course. Good point to clarify.

I have more lightning stories than anyone I know. Absolute horror stories. I can tell ya for sure that this new solid state stuff will get zapped if you follow conventional taught wisdom that everything should be grounded. I disconnect all my solid state stuff when the lightning is bad, including the external ground.
Again, I'm talking external ground, not neutral.

clappieampere-

actually, you used to be right about the grounding. BUT... things have changed in the new paradigm. whereas, lightning used to always originate in the sky and terminate in the ground, recently there has been a reversal observed in this phenomenon. as you know, lightning is caused by a difference in the charges in the electrons in the air and the ground... when an area of excess negatively charged electrons comes into proximity with an area of excess positively charged electrons the potential difference becomes very attractive... they get the hots for each other and... KAPOWWW!! down comes daddy.

it used to be the ones on top (the boy electrons) that did all the work in this powerfully explosive electric encounter; partially because they had gravity and god on their side... but lately, for as yet unknown (to me) reasons, the electrons on the bottom (the girl electrons) have been getting more aggressive and have begun to initiate many of these KAPOWWW experiences from the ground up. (who knows why? perhaps a desire to know and become one with god?)

anyway, for whatever reason, millions of these electronettes have taken to launching themselves upward at the speed of light and the heat of many suns, through the path of least resistance to connect with their male counterparts above.

personally, i make no judgements whatsoever about this. it is just an observation that i share FYI.
