Tom,

Besides total platters, I'm watching retail price per platter. And that is holding steady for many months now. Which is how DD companies returned to profits in the past 3 quarters. And am not pessimistic at all, though I might be in denial.

Tom,
<<What the root trouble actually is will be found in the physics of MR based head making.>>

Interesting to note that as far as the range of my reading and listening, you are the first to boil it all down to this one, extraordinary, development. But as you know, the eyes of history tend to pick out the high points, and I think you have selected the one that would be first in the books. There are, of course, many other circumstances that have led to the dearth of profits in the industry but that MR/GMR heads have been the causal root of the huge leap in performance is clear. That leap took us way past the demand curve at a huge cost in capital. Will demand catch up? Inevitably. But Seagate's move has significantly spoiled the play don't you think? Though I confess I like Maxtor more and more at these prices and have taken the dip on RDRT.

Any thoughts on HMTT/KMAG?

We are still in for a few more quarters of difficulty however.
Best,
Stitch
