<< There was a vital interest in Vietnam: chromium. >>

You mean that we lost 50,000 men to assure that we had shiny bumpers and faucets? And now chrome bumpers are out of style for cars, although Harleys use a lot of chrome. I think a lot of Viet Nam vets are riding Harleys now. It gives them energy, and keeps them out of the black hole.

There is no message here. Just a stream of consciousness. I've been working in the hot sun today.

Vietnam's chromium reserves are not nearly large enough or unique enough to justify the cost of the war, in lives or dollars.

I don't see how desire, ignoring the DMZ, or psychological warfare could have supplied a government capable of surviving very long after our departure.

Chromium??? Vietnam is a very small producer of chromium. South Africa, the number one producer, produces about 1000x as much as Vietnam. Other significant producers include Kazakhstan, India, Turkey, Albania, Zimbabwe.

Can you elaborate on how we would have used psychological warfare to win the war?

There was a vital interest in Vietnam: chromium.

Viet Nam is not and never was a major world producer of chromium. I don't doubt that they have some reserves. But you can't mine what you can't get to. The undisputed world leader in Chromium is South Africa.
