There is no doubt that patent law has gone well outside the bounds of it's original intent.

Rambus is breaking new ground with their IP only licensing of other people's products.

Here is another on :
Until recently, I lived in Germany for many years, and June is well known as the month of fresh home grown asparagus.
This year, it was noticably more expensive. The reason being that some jerk has applied for a patent on the process of gradually piling earth around the growing stem , thus keeping the asparagas tender and white.
Now, I guess asparagas has only been grown in this way for 500 years or so, but nobody patented it
