Vietnam war. Minerals didn't matter. LBJ was pushing the "Great Society". War creates demand, demand creates jobs and profits, jobs and profits create.... more tax revenue to fund the "Great Society".

Cannon fodder to fill LBJ's dreams.

Come on Terrence. There couldn't have been a need for more than a couple of tons of chromium for all of our ICBMs. One good sized junkyard full of 50s cars could have filled the need.
