It's not always clear what is taking place until the company makes a statement. And even then, one wonders. Take the Internet Telephony softswitch forum initiatives, for example, that have now turned into voip media gateway and session handling standards.

LU was a holdout, even though they were actively selling wares -- probably more so than anyone else, to the very largest carriers. Their reasons? They didn't want to enter into what could (and did) evolve into an "open standards" situation, while they were still holding Intellectual Property Rights that wasn't being recognized across the board. Something like that.

After some rewording of their involvement, and some guarantees that IP issues would be handled equitably, they finally agreed to join.

But they held out for a long time, but not quite until the clock struck twelve.
