Auer, Director, Product Line Management Access, Siemens AG Voice-enabled DSL (VeDSL) lets service providers bundle profitable voice-over-DSL services to their residential subscribers, enabling the transition of ADSL from a data-centric technology to a complete residential voice and data solution. VeDSL offers service providers the simplest, most cost-effective means to offer residential customers reliable, toll-quality multi-line voice services without a wire installation at the home or "forklift upgrade" at the central office; increase revenues through sticky, bundled DSL voice and data services and; utilize their circuit-switched infrastructure and management systems, while maintaining the flexibility to evolve to a packetized transport network without replacing the CPE. This presentation will explain how VeDSL dynamically allocates a 64 kbps portion of the ADSL bandwidth for each channelized voice line, while preserving POTS and the remaining ADSL bandwidth for data applications. VeDSL is a unique voice-over-DSL solution that transports voice within the ADSL physical layer. This eliminates the need for packetization of voice traffic into ATM or IP over the copper pair, yielding several cost, performance, and architectural advantages crucial to offering a toll-quality voice-over-DSL solution at consumer price points.
