There seems to be a loony faith among conservatives in the power of semantics (and newspeak but more on this later)....

"Taxes are necessary if we are to avoid anarchy, but they are a necessary evil, not a good thing."

Sheesh, if taxes are what keep us from anarchy, I'm all for proclaiming them "a good thing". But in your world, there are only shades of evil...hence "A government is not being great by avoiding by allowing people to prosper, it is merely avoiding being evil and oppressive" I guess it would be no stretch to paraphrase your view as: "All governments are evil, only some are less evil than others".

It would take too much time to point out how your twist of my "great nation" into "great government" even further convolutes this argument:

"Our country provides a good environment for people to prosper, however the government of our country is not responsible for our wealth. Individual people find ways to prosper in this good environment. A government is not being
great by avoiding by allowing people to prosper, it is merely avoiding being evil and oppressive"

(On other hand, I'm one of those that believe in a government "by the people" as being not only one "avoiding being evil" but "good." )

So if this is not a great nation that deserves credit for allowing people to prosper, what is it you right-wingers see worthy of dying for when it comes to war?

Is it only to protect the hoards of the greedy super-rich?
