The ad campaign SLOWLY ramps up, this from Yahoo:
G* DIRECT MAIL CAME TODAY

I received a piece of direct mail today from "Wireless Zone" promoting the G* phone. It is very well done and features Boating applications for satellite service and invites inquiries with a toll-free number. This was a blanket type mailing addressed to "Resident" so obviously it was a large mass mailing. This is encouraging to see and a step in the right direction from a marketing point of view.
------------------------------------------------------------

What is interesting about this is that Wireless Zone just signed on to G*. If this is true, then it would indicate that McSweeny is making a diference, at least with G*USA. This is the first distributor that I have seen, sign on and immediately push G*. That conforms to the new stepped up mode of adverting as opposed to the laid back 'build it and they will come' theory.

<<The original plans were for nearly all voice on
Globalstar.

A common criticism of G*'s business plan is that "the company could never have imagined five (ten) years ago when it was conceived how wide spread cellular coverage would become." Maybe that's true, maybe not. A less speculative statement would be "the company could never have imagined at its conception five (ten) years ago how widespread and important internet access would be for countless business and personal uses."

I do believe that G*, if it succeeds in making the internet and other data sources accessible virtually anywhere from a mobile terminal costing less than 1K$, and weighing less than a pound, that doubles as a phone and is plug and play compatible with standard lap top computers and palm-type devices, will make a lot more business than ever anticipated from "first world" countries.
