<I am not interested in "tax cuts" unless FICA is addressed since my employees pay more to fica - SS, medicare than federal income tax.>

That is a sad but true comment. But also consider that many of these such employees have no savings, have no money left over to save, etc.

Fast forward 30 years.

What are you going to do for them then? Too old to work, too sick to work, and not a dime saved?

At least FICA forces you to (IN THEORY) pay into a system that will help you live in your old age.

If that money could be diverted to ones own personal account, untouchable until 65, then it would work. If you are giving it to them to spend right now here today, it's a recipe for disaster.

No party can cut FICA and get elected in the near term. If GWB wins and Congress enacts his partial privatization, then some of the Democratic fear mongering may start to be seen for what it is. Imagine if Gore has his way and does nothing. Sooner or later, the economy will slow, we won't pay down the debt, which has increased by about $1.7 trillion under Clinton, and the system will go under. At their current rate of growth, entitlements will consume all discretionary spending in the not so far off future. The elderly are living longer due to the innovations of the mean old pharmaceutical companies. They are consuming more and more of the funds for Medicare and Medicaid, let alone adding on prescription drug coverage. We defeated socialized medicine for a reason. It doesn't provide the great care that Americans receive now, the envy of the world. Our tax dollars will extend less and less unless the Government really CUTS spending, not the rate of growth. I know Clinton would have never signed the outrageous sized budgets if they didn't have his social programs, but if GWB is elected, and Republicans retain control of Congress, I want to see the actual budget total decrease. There is no constitutional requirement for most Government expenditures with the exception of Defense and Commerce/Transportation.knc
