A couple of thoughts on the dem/repub thingie.

1. Compared to other countries, the two parties are not that far apart in ideology, so it isn't surprising that there are similar results. (Nixon was more liberal than Clinton on many issues). Dems have the edge, but not by a large margin.

2. Bushman would be very bad for the market next year if he cut taxes. Greenspam, if he didn't outright quit, would raise rates and send our stocks in the dumpers. We should wait for tax cuts until we are in a recession. In the meantime we should pay down the debt, which will give us more suplusses in future years and the opportunity for more tax cuts when we need them.

Hi bia: I don't know about Ned Davis Research, but this info was included in a newsletter from Edward Jones where I have an account. Ed Jones is usually very conservative, but my local rep is quite technical. He says other EJ reps, especially in the Midwest, don't understand the tech revolution. As to reasons for those stats, who knows. Like you, I was always told, and believed, a republican admin was better for business. Perhaps... it just was luck, but I'm not buying the luck theory. eg: Biotech research was stunted by restrictions against fetal cell research. No more time to discuss now, but I am interested in your ideas. Are you in LA enjoying the convention? Karen
