I ran cable to a television all by myself. I cut the feed and spliced in a splitter and ran some cable that I bought at Graybar to the room. I had it all tied down nice, hidden from view, crimping tool etc. Very clean job. I was proud.

It didn't work.

Levels were screwed up and I didn't have access to the feeder box so that I could install another filter (imagine the damage I could do there). Wife was pissed, no Jacque Pipin (SP? whatever). I finally called the cable people and demanded satisfaction!! The guy who showed up walked straight up to my beautiful cable job and pulled it down. He redid the connections to his own splitter and installed new cable to the downstairs room. I asked him why he didn't just clean the connection that I ran and he said that the cable wasn't the same that TCI used. I told him that it was the best that was available and he said "I know". The implication was that he would be back out unless he ran everything and terminated everything the way he knew would work best.

I'm not an idiot and I worked hard on that cable run and the installer didn't hesitate to rip it out and reinstall. That guy knew the secret.
