Ericsson Receives Contract For LMDS in Poland
Business Wire - August 17, 2000 11:29
STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 2000--Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERICY) has been selected by Telekomunikacja Polska S.A, the major operator in Poland, to supply MINI-LINK BAS, 26 GHz Point to Multipoint system for wireless broadband access.

Ericsson and Telekomunikacja Polska S.A (TPSA) have signed a contract for equipment and services for initial deployment of a wireless broadband access system in Warsaw. Ericsson's MINI-LINK BAS (Broadband Access System) will be used to give new business customers access to high speed data communication, Internet and applications, as well as provide present customers with back up to their existing data communication networks.

Initial deployment will cover Warsaw. The deployment and selection of Ericsson's MINI-LINK BAS solution is in line with TPSA's current move from circuit switched to ATM based packet switched traffic. TPSA is the largest national fixed net operator in Poland with 90 percent of the telephone subscribers.

The selection of Ericsson and its MINI-LINK BAS as the wireless broadband access solution came following a lengthy and thorough evaluation process of a number of potential suppliers and includes the successful completion of a field trial demonstrating full integration with the TPSA ATM network.

"This contract is a confirmation of Ericsson's ability to deliver a future proof, true broadband wireless access system with the reliability, volumes and capabilities new businesses are asking for," says Mikael Backstrom, Vice President, Ericsson Microwave Systems. "These capabilities include, among others, the possibility to combine traditional leased lines with new IP connections providing symmetrical peak traffic rates at 10-20 Mbps."

With the MINI-LINK BAS, Ericsson is the first company in the world to offer a true broadband wireless access point-to-multipoint LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution Systems) system, providing end-users with symmetrical or asymmetrical services at up to 37 Mbps, fixed or dynamically allocated between users.

Ericsson is the leading communications supplier, combining innovation in mobility and Internet in creating the new era of Mobile Internet. Ericsson provides total solutions covering everything from systems and applications to mobile phones and other communications tools.
