Hi mishedlo; Re the deal that Hitachi got...

Rambus claimed royalties on Hitachi SDRAM since what, 1992? But they let Hitachi off with just paying royalties for SDRAM memory produced over an 8 month period, from mid 2000 until Hitachi memory becomes sold through NEC, which is supposed to be around the end of the year. Hitachi didn't even have to pay back royalties dating to the day that Rambus sued them (i.e. January 2000).

That much of the deal is public knowledge, but it means that Hitachi only had to pay royalties for a tiny fraction of their SDRAM production. Pretty sweet deal for a company that was being asked for triple damages from a US court. No wonder Hitachi jumped at it.
