A failed attempt at self install can adversely affect the channel outside your house, and therefore other users

The point that I cant get past is the fact that every single day thousands of installs are done using in-house wiring.

A split for the modem, stick in a NIC, run some install software and I'm outta there. Thats why they can do it in 30 minutes to an hour. Thats whats gonna have to happen in my place or cable simply wont be an alternative. Most of the wiring is completely inaccessable.

The installer cant tell if there is a crimp in the cable somewhere or a lousy connecter buried in the walls. He just goes on faith. Faith in the Joe six-pack who put the wire in 10 years ago.

You obviously know more about this than I. What am I missing here?

Eric

ftth, Suffice it to say it is FAR more complex an issue than it appears to the untrained eye.

A nice post.

The nuts and bolts of ATHM's operation is a 'hard reality' that does not lend itself well to being spun, it is too easy for everyone to see the results.

Management digs deeper holes for itself -and in turn, irresponsibly for we the shareholders- when they fail to properly educate themselves prior to opening their mouths. Even worse would be that they have knowledge of the difficulty involved and paint a rosey picture because 'perception' demands it.

Fallout is what results when projection and perception encounter reality and they are not in phase with one another.
