I often have a bowl of grits for breakfast

Yes, with a huge pat of butter melting on top. Yellow, yummy greasiness. Rivulets of oil, running down from the heaping, steaming, soft dome of white starchiness. Tons of salt and pepper on top of it, too. Around here Alber's Hominy Grits are like some sort of expensive novelty food. When I was a kid, we used to get a 5 lb. bag of 'em - with double or triple Green Stamps. Now, just a little box for 10 times the price. Sniff.
