Hi Jill

If I might interject here -
it makes nothing but sense to me.

Hi Jill...

Nice write up on CC psychology. That is a great summarization of the of the learning process one goes through when becoming comfortable writing covered calls.

It is a great strategy as far as I am concerned, I like more all the time.

Hope you are well. Scott

So Jill, do you (or anyone else) consider ELON one of the better stocks to write CC's? I bought some ELON at 44, 53, 67, and 68 and wrote some calls, but since the stock has come down so much I am not totally sure what to do with it. I am a bit upset with ELON.

Sure, if I bought near the bottom at $35 I would be fine and would write calls all day, but I bought when it was high and now what do I do?

I am going to be in a situation soon where I would like to write some calls for consistent income but I am a little discouraged with ELON.

Do we all still think ELON is a great company?

Hmmm.
So you would have, as some people do, "Core" portfolio and "non core " portfolio. On stocks that you are not willing to have called (obviously SSTI and CSCO were in that boat for me today) you just don't sell the cov calls? Or sell them quite far above the price?
On stocks that it's ok with you to have called (and maybe you'll buy them back or maybe you'll replace with Leaps as I'm doing with JDSU or maybe you'll just go on to something else if they get called) you write the cov call just above the price or at the price?
It would be nice to write the calls when the stock is "high"" I did that with NTAP: wrote them at 100 and then NTAP went down so I doubt those will be called.
But we don't always know what "high" is...until after the fact.
This is, however, a very interesting discussion.
Are there some stocks that selling cov calls does not bring in enough income to bother?

Jill, help me out here. I don't see where you get 4k every four weeks on 1000 shares of ELON, when you are getting a premium of 1 5/8 at a share price of $35.

1 5/8 is about a 5% premium, and on 1000 shares that is $1625.

What am I not seeing? I have been having some wine, but laying off the Mount Gay.
