I have learned some interesting facts about the new "high end" filer to be announced next month.

Its the F840, which would indicate that it will be the mid-range of a new family, even though it replaces the F760, which is the high end now.

It uses the Intel Coppermine CPU. So the switch from Alpha to INTC was as easy as I claimed in response to Gilder's report a month or so ago.

There is room on the motherboard for a second CPU. Hmmmm....

The F840 is in use at NTAP corporate and field offices now. It is being offered and is in testing a several customer sites. Reviews are exceptionally good, with reliability and speed improvements in particular.

BSD, don't ever (I mean "ever"!) expect NTAP to post blowout quarters when it comes to earnings. NTAP's board of directors includes CSCO's CFO. The Chairman of NTAP's board (Don Valentine, Sequoya) is a past Chm of CSCO's board and is still on the CSCO board.

NTAP will provide good guidance to the street, just as CSCO does. NTAP will beat the street numbers by $.01 and on occasion by $.02. That's the game they play. It makes them a reliable company for the analysts to look at, just like CSCO.

Do expect NTAP to continue a fast growth quarter to quarter. Also expect a stream of great product announcements over the next year, culminating in the new DAFS VI -based products which are yet another Open Proprietary Disruptive Innovation.
