I just hope the contract makes them eat any overruns (although I doubt it will; I think it's probably more likely that we taxpayers will be the ones screwed if they go over).

Compaq wouldn't need to bid blue sky stuff to win on performance. SUNW has other qualities but it will never win on performance, even with USIII.

If SUNW adopt IA64 in a big way, then maybe - because then they will have access to the superior intel processing technology.
