Andreas-- I'm looking fwd to Mon and seriously debating the idea of retaining any. At this price it is tempting to sell the left over also. I am constantly looking for places to put cash since the beginning of the year. You forget coms, cs, lcos, and others that have done well this year? I've not been able to get that all of that cash working yet. Plus I still have a couple in the red that need flushed soon as every deduction will be helpful this year. If you find anything interesting send me a PM. I have unbookmarked the cpq thread and will only be checking in once in awhile.
Best of luck to all the longs!

Gartner's Dataquest Says Latin America PC Market Grew 51 Percent in Second Quarter 2000

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 2000--Driven by strong
demand in the home market, Latin America PC shipments totaled 1.5
million units in the second quarter of 2000, an increase of 51 percent
over the same period last year, according to Dataquest Inc., a unit of
Gartner Group, Inc. (NYSE: IT and ITB). PC shipments into the home
market in the second quarter of 2000 grew 99 percent over second
quarter shipments in 1999.

"Compaq was the No. 1 vendor in the region as it increased its
market share because of its strong brand awareness and recognition and
the company's ability to handle product fulfillment in the various
market segments," said Luis Anavitarte, director for Dataquest's Latin
America research. "On a regional scale, Compaq and the white box
manufacturers are satisfying the strong demand in the home segment.
Many of the other vendors have indeed miscalculated the growth of this
highly competitive segment, which is driven by the explosion of the
Internet."

Hewlett-Packard showed the strongest growth among top-tier vendors
due to competitive pricing and more product availability in the home
segment in Mexico. Compaq and Alaska were the other top-tier vendors
to experience stronger growth than the overall average in the region
(see Table 1).

The top three countries in the region, Brazil, Mexico, and
Argentina, accounted for 75 percent of the PC shipments. Recovering
from a weak second quarter last year, Brazil's PC shipments increased
93 percent this quarter, as it accounted for 39 percent of the market.
Shipments in Mexico grew 34 percent, as it accounted for 26 percent of
the market, and Argentina was the No. 3 country as shipments were up
57 percent, and it had more than 10 percent of PC shipments in the

Andreas,
I'll be sad to see you go. I have really enjoyed your comments and ribbing this past year. Perhaps our paths will cross on another thread in the future. Perhaps CPQ will dip for options expiry. Nothing surprises me at this point and two long slow days remain before the Friday closing. Good luck to you what ever happens.
