Dan-- Watch out. I guarantee you someone here is preparing a little diatribe about how weak demand is for AMD's processors based on the 1 GHz P3/Athlon pricing discrepancy. The possibility that the mean Athlon bins ~100 MHz higher than the average P3 and that the pricing structure is perfectly appropriate given AMD's superior Athlon binsplits can never be publicly acknowledged. Moreover, the principle that it is better to sell 100,000 of x at $500 than to sell 10,000 of x at $1100, when x costs ~$60 apparently does not apply to AMD.

We've got IDF coming up though. Intel probably will have something other than FUD and Albert Yu's wit ("this 1.5 GHz Septium is so fast my slides are out of control") this time around.

Re: "Well, you can pay for it today. IBM's "Buy Today, Ship Today" program is limited to 733 and 800MHZ.
Anything else falls into the "Why wait a week or more to get your system..." category. I wonder how long "or more" is?"

IBM lists 1.133 & 1GHz systems as "in stock" The link was posted here a week or so ago. I don't have it handy.

Re: "You can purchase 1 GHz CuMines on PriceWatch today...
Not one of the 7 listings says "In-Stock", and the cheapest is $1099."

Not one of them says "out-of-stock" and I'm glad Intel gets such a nice premium for them.

Lewinsky-Dan - Re:"I can buy a Thunderbird GHZ system from any one of a number of manufacturers at any one of a number of retailers today and take it home today. And I don't have to worry about keeping the system away from sunny windows."

So - which one did you buy?

How do you like your new 1 GHz ThumperTurd?

Or were you, as usual, blowing hard, hot air?
