Hmmm. I dont know about your copper vs aluminum argument.. (I am sure JC or Dale Laroy being the technical guys on here can respond to that claim better then I if they so choose)

But methinks you're jumping the gun on the 1.13 Intel PIII being faster.. Johan has already hinted at Aces Hardware that once AMD's NDA expires on Aug 28, his benchmarks will show the Thunderbird 1.1 will beat the 1.13 in the majority of benchmarks.. thus handing the fastest CPU processor title back to AMD.

Besides.. as we all know.. unless Intel can sufficiently make enough 1.13 to sell.. the argument becomes irrelevant.

Dear Paul:

Re: P3 1.13G

P3@1.13G is slower than a Kyrotech cooled Tbird@950 which does 1.36G. Extrapolating to Tbird@1.1G, we get 1.57G. Thus Kyrotech will probably ship 1.5G Tbirds that are thermally accelerated 1.1G Tbirds, just like Intel does with P3@933, 1G, and 1.13G (you might even be able to receive them in the same timeframe since the cases are already available). Any of these that have a junction temperature of 90C like Tbird@1.1G, just stop working at all for a speed of 0 period.

When Intel can ship a P3@1.13G with a Tj of 90C, then you can make fun of AMD yields (unless of course Tbirds are much faster then).

Pete

Paul,

I heard Intel's aluminum has a lower melting point than AMD's copper.

Make it so,
Mysef

In all fairness, neither AMD nor Intel have proven that they have faster than 1.00GHz processors in any significant quantities (personally, to me that means a filling of both OEM and component markets to a level where the part is decently easy to acquire). To repeat a cliche', I think we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
