Gregg, I was thinking of passing airliners, which are required to monitor 121.5. Sure 1 lb is not substantial, but they all add-up: protection & fire starting material; first-aid; food & water. In your case though, everything else probably pales in comparison to the raft. Also for you in the Caribbean, the G* has uses beyond an emergency signaling device. I have no plans to get one, and I am not in a minority of pilots. I've never seen any discussion of them in an aviation publication. That could mean there is no interest - or an untapped market.
