Marvin:

Explain something to me...Qualcomm's total investment in NetZero and Globalstar aggregate to less than $1 billion pre-tax. Assuming, as you have, that both investment net to zero (pun intended), then the after tax delta would be less than $600mm. Qualcomm has 800 million fully-diluted shares outstanding, so we are talking about an economic impact on the order of $0.75 per share. Hardly something to lie in bed worrying about...don't you think?

It is most useful to separate psychology from quantitative reality.

Marvin, as of 12/99 Qcom has invested about 320 million dollars in investments that are now worth close to 2 billion dollars. They have another 30 or so million in internet access and internet applications that are yet to be determined as to their worth. Not a bad record.

The Q can continue to support GStrf indefinitely without impairing their balance sheet or income statement.

And, if you will, tell us why an investment in Globalstar is "squandering" cash, we view investments of this nature in just the opposite way.

regards,

bt
