I sent this post from GP to a friend that likes to hunt. Got this email back from him:

Got my Cabelas Fall 2000 Master Catalogue a week ago. Cabelas is the foremost mail order (and now on-line www.cabelas.com) of outdoor gear. The phone met Cabelas product standards so it's in the catalogue. It's a pretty big deal to make their catalogue. Probably will sell quite a few. Check out their online ad:

Souze, I note from your profile that you are retired and born in '46. So ... I'm figuring either that's 1846 or you read charts a whole lot better than I do. As to drinking early, let's just call it the G* exception, almost any time is a good time as long as it's cheap.

On a more serious note, I see where you and several others have recently described use of G* phone and in similar terms = primarily emergency or "special occasion" situations. Very similar to my own experience. I'm curious if you and others with similar usage patterns would use the phone on a regular basis if it worked in your car. Would the possibility that you were occasionally dialing or receiving in sattelite mode deter you from simply letting the phone work in whatever mode was available, or would you still leave it in the glove box. I ask because I'm pretty sure I'd be using mine regularly under those circumstances. Also there were some posts awhile back about users who finally purchased a car kit (obviously not G* investors, since these guys could afford car kits) and now are racking up substantial satellite minutes.

You guessed it, I'm still banging the drum for car phone gap coverge with G*.
