Within the confines of this thread, you guys can tell each other to "gfy" to your hearts' content when it's good-natured banter between you. I know how it is. My best friend and I swap this quip frequently. Something similar is often included (privately) in conversations with one of my dearest friends here. I think it's tacky to do so publicly, in much the same way I invite my best friend to know himself only when we're not within earshot of others, but tacky has never been an issue here. So, I acknowledge the benign, male-bonding aspect of the phrase, and want to clarify that its use here is not the issue. *How* it's used is. In the same way it wouldn't be appropriate for me to say it to a stranger, no matter how tempted I might be, it's also not appropriate here to say that to someone in another thread in response to a statement of theirs we don't happen to like. When it happens here, between the regulars, it's just tacky quipping. When it happens elsewhere, to someone else, it's a personal attack.<<Message 14136813 As far as I know, posting "GFY" to Bobby Beara on the All Clowns Must Be Destroyed thread is what got MythMan suspended, and I think that's contrary to what SI(Bob) told us in the above post. Technically, since Bob posted the above on the Clown-Free thread, instead of the All Clowns Must Be Destroyed thread, he can say that MythMan's post to Bobby Beara was not on the thread he said was OK to post "GFY" on. I don't buy that because these are our threads, we have been using "GFY" on both of them, in fact I think we first used it on the Myth thread, so it would be needless nit-picking. Bob could also say that Bobby Beara isn't one of us, but that's not the case, and Bobby Beara asked for MythMan to be reinstated. So I am stumped.
