Doesn't the Transmeta chip have to emulate x86 hence it's about 30% slower that a Pentium III? What about running Linux, how fast compared to a Pentium III?

They haven't released any benchmarks, but they are not really emulating. Their technology is more like a JIT (just in time compilation.) Some code will run slower on Crusoe, but they claim that other code can be optimized to run faster than PIII.

We will have to see when product comes out, but I've heard their performance is not well optimized for 16 bit Windows code.
