You wrote "Not this time. AMD may have fooled the street with the 1.1GHz Athlon "release", but they haven't fooled me..."

I believe AMD announced that the 1.1 Ghz chips would be available on August 28th. Why do you expect Compaq and Gateway to start selling the systems before then?

Dear Cir,

The 1.10GHz Athlon announcement was a "we shipped the product, it'll be actually announced in half a month" thing. The press release more or less stated that.

It's kinda how K7 started shipping in June 1999 but was announced August 1999. In other words, Athlon-1100 is not currently out. AMD is up to 1.00MHz right now.

From what I gather, the "official" release date for the 1.1GHz is the (Aug) 28th.

Something wrong with Gateway these day...

Cirruslvr RE:"Gateway is still selling 750MHz Athlon systems. In the past, when AMD released a faster processor, Gateway would ditch the lowest speed grade and sell a 50MHz faster system for the same price. Not this time. AMD may have fooled the street with the 1.1GHz Athlon "release", but they haven't fooled me... "

I back from west coast where I have some brothers and friends that are Dell-only customer. I gave as a wedding gift to my brother's son a Gateway 750 tbird. The piece had been build to ordered from here. They shipped the system on time except that monitor got lost by UPS. It's now almost over a month that I try to have that stupid monitor reship to this young couple.

Gateway have now the most stupid service to customer I never see before. Any e-mail to custserv@gateway.com seem to go directly to recycle-bin. No answers. Their phone# at 1-800-846-8529 drive you crazy. They make you enter by touch-tone all reference # and then a nice voice says you will be transferred to a customer specialist... and after only 30 seconds of shopping-centre’s music the nice voice tell you that all agents are busy and invite you to try later and cut the communication. haaaarrrr after all that touch-tone keying ...

Anyway, we have use an old monitor to personalize the gift. A tbird 750 is still a smooth (crasyold-TM) munster machine. I like the Gateway box. Very nice access to part and strong building. They have kept the side ventilating hole but with the Tbird they don't use anymore those big heatsink with a 5" fan that was little too noisy for a desk-top on the previous 650 Atlon system. The 750 Tbird is very quiet.
