Eddie, I played QFAB last Nov when Fidelity wanted to dump 1.2 mil shares, stock had based at 5 with a book value of 8 and in fact earnings were looking to recover (NMGC's are still detorating and new products are off at least a few qtrs). When fidelity wanted out MM's pushed it to 3.5 (ie want to sell gotta incentivise buyers).....soon as the shares were moved the stock went back to 5.
My point, as NMGC holders look at portofolio if nothing on the horizon (maybe crappy earnings come nov) and they've got a paper loss of 80%, they can monitize 1/2 that (40%) buy selling the remaing 20% equity they have.
From cash flow standpoint they can do quite well, even if the loss is only 50%
Tax loss selling is real and makes financial sense.
Look for volume spikes and big negative moves in oversold stocks, make a easy 30-50% in 1-2 months. Can give more real exmples.
Tax selling keeps broken issues down in Nov/Dec
