Yes, I am surrounded by smoke lately. However, forest fires have been around for millions of years. This year was made worse form the unusual heat and dryness that some are already linking to man made causes. I don't know if they are right and I am no tree hugger. However, I do not see the rationale in cutting down a 200 year old redwood just so some guy can keep a job nor do I think it is some redneck's right to be able to tear up roads that were meant for fire patrols, game officials and for the rest of us to walk on.

I do agree some degree of logging can be done without harm but when that limit is met, don't start cutting down the stuff that is needed to be kept to guarantee a job for unskilled laborers. I have had dogs throw hips out from running in clear cut areas where all that was left was stumps and holes, I have seen the trout streams lose all thier fish from the run off caused by lack of vegetation and I have seen once great hunting grounds left barren. My father has to turn away tree cutters every year that are fighting for the chance to cut down our multi hundred year Walnut tree. Doesn't anyone else ever stop to think how many indians and settlers may have leaned up against a tree like this?

Anyway, it is late and this is the wrong forum for this discussion.

I think the next few months may let Gold have it's day. There is trouble brewing in the stock market and a safe haven will be sought soon. Let's just hope gold is the chosen vehicle with Bonds in short supply.

Good Luck,

Lee
