Yes, Anyone has the right to go long or short anything. Should not the same margin requirements apply to both the short or long sides? I expect nothing more than a free market, no not a government "handout". I will accept nothing less.

Is a free market a "handout" or the most basic of those inalienable rights written of by our founders? It is a right of every person in the world & the exacting reason you site (incorrectly) as "conservative" that our country ever works for anyone. There is near nothing which more surely provides the guarantee of a free people than the free market. The cornerstones which support all other freedoms in our land are:
A Free & Open Market
The Freedom of the Press(This double edged saber must cut both ways)
Assured Protected Property Rights
The Freedom of Speech
The Right to Own & Bear Arms.
