I never believed that p4 performance would be as poor as many thought but if Intel gave up their most successful brand (pentium) for an application specialized processor then the performance of that chip must really suck big time.

Sounds like intel is trying to create an extra appeal in commercial market which is mostly networks as the processing would not be competitive enough to maintain market dominance.
