Dear saukriver: Yes A TINY minority of people do in fact take advantage of Floridas liberal homestead exemption law but the VAST MAJORITY of people who get themselves into difficulties IMHO because these damn banks send credit cards to anyone including my dog, have no homestead to speak of and certainly no Mansion. JDN

True, true. Not to cast aspersions on the 99% of honest residents of the great state of Florida, but I did read this weekend that Saul Steinberg of the imploded Reliance Insurance Group "insurance" empire come bankruptcy is sniffing around for a good $10 or $20 million home in Florida, this just after liquidating his art collection and $30 million Park Avenue apartment. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy....
